Welcome to The Cupcake Company where they lovingly make the most delicious little cakes in London.
They have found that people feel less guilty about eating a small sweet treat, and they are here to provide the finest! They attribute their superior flavour to the use of organic products as much as possible, sourced fresh from organic supermarkets and local farmers markets. Naturally they don’t use any additives, preservatives or artificial flavourings and for this reason the cakes are best eaten fresh on the day they are baked.

From the work itself, to the materials used and the way they frame and pack your picture, everything is completed to the highest quality.
Exhibitions
To keep their prices down, they do not have a permanent gallery space. They do however, exhibit their original modern art in various bars and restaurants across London on a revolving basis. To truly appreciate the drama and presence of any piece of original modern art you really need to see it in the flesh.
The artists

Day 63 - Heavenly Nibbles
The Ladurée story
The history of Parisian tea salons is intimately tied to the history of the Ladurée family. It all began in 1862, when Louis Ernest Ladurée, a miller from France’s southwest, created a bakery at 16 rue Royale in Paris. During the same year, the first stone of the Garnier Opera was laid, and the area surrounding the Madeleine was rapidly developing into one of the capital’s most important and elegant business districts. The most prestigious names in French luxury goods had already taken up residence in this neighborhood.
In 1871, while Baron Haussmann was giving Paris a ‘‘new face’’, a fire made access to the transformation of the bakery to a pastry shop. The decoration of the pastry shop was entrusted to Jules Cheret, a famous turn-of-the-century painter and poster artist. M Cheret sought inspiration from the painting techniques used for the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and the Garnier Opera. By incorporating them in his work, he added depth and relief to the ceilings ornamented with cherubic children.
Under the Second Empire, cafes developed and became more and more luxurious. They attracted Parisian high society. Along with the chic restaurants around the Madeleine, they became the showcases of the capital.
The beginning of this century found Paris wrapped up in a frenzy of distraction and going out in public. Parisians flocked to the Exposition Universal. Women were also changing. They wanted to make new acquaintances. Literary salons and « les circles » were outmoded.
Ladurée’s wife, Jeanne Souchard, daughter of a well-known hotelier in Rouen, had the idea of mixing styles: thus the Parisian café and pastry shop gave birth to one of the first tea salons in town.
The ‘‘salon de thé’’ had a definite advantage over the cafés of the pooch: they permitted ladies to gather in freedom. Jeanne Souchard succeeded in combining the turn-of-the-century trend to modernism with knowledge of the merits of a craft transmitted by her family.
The rue Royale tea room was enlarged in the middle of the twentieth century by Pierre Desfontaines, second cousin of Louis Ernest Ladurée. When he retired, his son, Jean Marie, and his niece, Dominique, presided over the tea salon. In 1993, they decided to buy this Parisian institution, and promote and enlarge the famous ‘Maison’. In 1997, a new prestigious Ladurée address both a restaurant and tea room opened on the Champs-Elysées.
The story of the Macaroon
These small, round cakes, crisp on the outside, smooth and soft in the middle, are the most famous creation of Ladurée.
The story of the Ladurée macaroon starts with Pierre Desfontaines, distant cousin of Louis Ernest Ladurée, who at the beginning of the 20th century first thought of taking two macaroon shells and joining them with a delicious ganache filling. The way of making them has never changed since that time.
These small, round cakes, crisp on the outside, smooth and soft in the middle, are made every morning in Ladurée’s "laboratory". The pastry chefs measure out very precisely the required amounts of almonds, eggs and sugar, before adding one final ingredient, a pinch of unique "know-how", essential to the making of such a delicacy.
Once cooked and filled, the macaroons are put to one side for 2 days before going on sale, the time it takes to achieve a perfect balance between texture and flavour.
Macaroons come in two sizes: the mini-macaroon or "gerbet" and full-size macaroons.
With each new season, Ladurée pays tribute to this its most famous creation by creating a new flavour.
The existing range of macaroons is always the starting point when a new one is created, as the variety of colours is as important as the range of flavours and a vital part of their appeal.
The new flavour for autumn:
Macaroon “Ruby Kiss” aroma of chocolate, berries and spices.
Flavours that are permanently available:
Chocolate, Dark chocolate, Vanilla, Coffee, Rose petal, Pistachio, Salted butter Caramel, Cherry amaretto, Raspberry, Orange blossom, Liquorice.
Seasonal flavours :
Lemon, Praline, Ice mint, Coconut, Chestnut, Grenadine.
Special & temporary creations:
Java Pepper - Apricot Ginger - Muscovado - Candyfloss - Havana - White amber - Indian Rose - Aniseed - Champagne - Orange Saffron - Lily-of-the-valley - Strawberry Poppy - Gingerbread - Rosanis
Available from Harrods or the store at 71-72 Burlington Arcade, London W1

Chocolate, Chocolate & Nothing But The Chocolate
This has to be my favourite chocolate shop in the world. Small but perfectly formed and to die for confectionary. Rococo Chocolates began the Real Chocolate Revolution in the UK in 1983, in London’s King’s Road. Rococo transformed the experience of buying and consuming chocolate into something of an art form, but always with love and humour. The second shop opened in Marylebone High Street in 2004.
Their truffles come in the following delicious flavours:
Milk: plain milk, rum, passion fruit
Dark: plain dark, coffee, orange, chilli, cognac, single malt whisky, mozart
White: vanilla, pink champagne, cardamon and saffron
£6.00 per 100g
Also available are Hampers:
Nebuchadnezar £145
Balthazar £67.50
Melchior £47.50
Caspar £26.00

Saving For A Rainy Day
I’ve recently bought one of these for my daughter to be (due in December). I’m extremely good at finding money, from a penny to a 20 euro note on Regents Street.
“Find a penny, pick it up and all day you’ll have good luck” as the saying goes.
All the money I now find is going to go straight into this little fellow and should give our daughter good luck for many years to come.
Available from Graham & Green priced £6.25 (smallest) and £10.95 for the largest.

New Direction In Lighting
Motorlight is the first variable angle uplight, enabling you to vary the light angles to suit different environments and needs - from ambient lighting through to spot lighting.
It can be set to a precise angle of light or can be activated to cycle through continually adjusting angles to enhance the mood of the environment.
You also have the option to experiment and achieve the exact angle of the light for a given situation. The effect of continually cycling the angle of the light can be likened to ‘active’ mood lighting. This type of lighting can enhance an environment, with washes of light causing the room to feel like it is lifting and breathing.
Motorlight has a modernist aesthetic, which can work with any decor, whether minimal, clean and futuristic or retro chic.
Designed and manufactured by Jake Dyson Limited.
Motorlight is produced in exclusive batches of 500 units, and is available in 5 colours:
White Gloss
Black Gloss
Red Glow
Blue Glow
Clear Glow
Special edition colours are available on request.

Love- Dolls Never Die
This is a recreation of the late Bob Carlos Clarke’s last London Exhibition in 2004.
This landmark exhibition was the first time he had embraced the digital revolution and was his first show in London in 12 years.
In discussions about the exhibition he said “My new show is the antithesis of everything I have ever preached. I’ve gone for brutal clarity & intense manipulation. It’s a complete fusion of old & new technology: Traditional darkroom ”wet“ processes and state of the art photoshop retouching. The files are huge and are going to be printed 5 foot high.”
For the exhibition one complete set of very large prints were made, eventually to be available in an edition of 9 and smaller “trade” edition of 100. Due to his untimely death very few prints were made and signed.
The Entire Collection of Exhibition prints was acquired at the time by a private collector who has now consigned them to 20 Ltd.
20 Ltd has also available a number of prints in the smaller format also signed by the artist.
- Fantasy Females Are Impossible To Satisfy
- Faithful Unto Death
- Sex Kitten
- Automatic
- For Dolls That Do Dishes
- Nookia
- Total Control
- Men Have Feelings Too
- Domestic Appliances For The Modern Housewife
- Tease Maid
- Unexploded Female
- Femme Fatales Threaten Family Values
- Infanta Electronica
- The Tinsleys & Their Au Pair
- Dream Tea
- Wind Me Up
- Adult Females Attack Without Provocation
The photo above is called Adult Females Attack Without Provocation. It is available in 2 different formats:

Small format print (24“ x 36”) signed and numbered on the recto by the artist. They are numbered out of 100. In most cases only 12 or fewer were produced and signed by the artist.

Underwater Dreaming
Floating, underwater hotel, where you sleep in an underwater aquarium.
The Utter Inn is the brainchild of Mikael Genberg, a local artist and sculptor who has chosen to focus on "making art for the public". It lies 3m below the surface of Lake Mälaren in Västerås, Sweden and contains only twin beds and a table.
The Utter (Otter) Inn opened in June 2000 on the coldest, rainiest day in the whole summer. Despite that it was a great success. Not only did all the untested solutions work, it also attracted a lot of people. The Utter Inn stimulates the most typical of Swedish dreams; to have a small Swedish red house with white garbles on your own island. On top of that you can spend your night three meters underwater with panoramic windows in all directions.
This alternative dwelling also includes a sense of risk taking and adventure that tends to expand the sensory input. One should not forget the psychological term "transfer of exaltation". Roughly explained it is about man's tendency to transform the experience of fear to an experience of love. You don’t want to feel afraid so the brain changes the emotion to something far more pleasant. You feel more alive. In this sense arranged, controlled fear can be very important.
The guests of Otter Inn arrive at the port of Vasteras and they are taken the 1 km out on the lake Malaren with an inflatable boat, they get instructions and are then left alone. If they have selected the deluxe version they will get a visit later with their supper. They have the opportunity to use an inflatable canoe to visit the closest uninhabited island. Most have enough courage to swim and sunbath and watch the fish (both upstairs and downstairs) at the hotel. There is a remarkable feeling to go to bed while the fish are surrounding and watching you carefully. You are in an aquarium - for fish to be beholders of man. Often boats come quite close to get a glance of the daring inhabitants. Swedish boatpeople are however always very polite and never takes more than two trips around your room!!!
You’re guaranteed a memorable night!
The Utter Inn is very popular during the summer months and we recommend you talk to the Vasteras tourism team of Pernilla, Sara, Jonna or Kristin to find out when there is availability. There are 2 daily flights on Ryanair to Vasteras direct from Luton in the UK with good availability, so you can talk to the ladies, find availability and confirm your flights online at the same time!

Loyal Customers
I’ve been an extremely loyal customer at Jo Hansford’s hair salon for many years. After a disastrous hair dying experience at a very well known salon left me looking like Ozzy Osbourne, resulting in my having to get many many inches cut off after colour correction went badly wrong. I searched high and low for the best London had to offer. After all how you look is, in this day and age, what appears to matter.
Colourist Charlie at Jo Hansford’s in Mount Street along with Sarah or Sonia for your cut and blow dry are the prefect combination. Resulting in many “where do you get your hair coloured?”
I feel completely at ease letting them all do what they want with my hair, a first!
With clients ranging from Alison Goldfrapp, Angelina Jolie, Elizabeth Hurley, Erin O’Connor, Yasmin Le Bon to Nigella Lawson.
Prices for full highlights range from £400 for Jo herself to £180 for a junior colourist. Cut and blow dry from £100 with Derek to £70 with Steve.
